Sailteck Race Compass

Its large super-clear two-line display and intuitive interface. Sailteck is the best digital compass available.

The Sailteck race compass combines precision and ease of use in a lightweight, solar-powered design. The waterproof durable construction ensures optimum performance in all conditions.

Sailteck is the only manufacturer to claim and meet an accuracy specification which is 2°. While some other manufacturers refer to a repeatability of 1°, repeatability is the same as true accuracy. Our tests show that Sailteck is the only digital compass which delivers an accurate heading.

The two line display allows you to view simultaneous critical information on one screen. Before the start, you can see the countdown AND the heading.

Sailteck compasses are available through specialist resellers. You can find your closest reseller at the resellers tab on our website or by clicking here.

Yes.  When in the GO:5 page, press and hold the < button.  The new setting will apply for the day.

If the battery is less than 50% charged, you will see a LOW BAT warning at power up and power down. To our knowledge, no one has ever seen this message since the integrated solar panel generates more power than the electronics need.

Tactic mode

First sail on port tack and note the displayed wind direction. Now tack onto starboard and note the new wind direction, if the starboard wind direction is 10° less than the port wind direction then you need to add 10° to the TACK angle.

It’s down to how you sail. If you would never tack on a 1 or 2° wind shift but might tack on a 3 or 4° shift then the best STEP size for you is 2° since the numbers will benefit from the stability of the 2° STEP without affecting your tactics.

If you typically sail at 10° from the downwind direction and the wind is due north (000°) then you would expect to see the compass at 170° and 190° as you gybe your way downwind.  If you are on starboard and see 180° then the wind has backed and is helping you to the downwind mark but if you see 160° then you might want to think about putting in a gybe.

If you are using Tactic mode and have set the tack angle, you can read the wind direction directly on the Tactic display. If you are using Compass mode, you can either take the midpoint between the close-hauled courses on port and starboard, or turn the boat into the wind and read the heading on the compass. To determine the downwind direction, simply add 180° to the wind direction.

Yes. Upwind use the Tactic display to indicate the wind direction and downwind use the Compass to keep an eye on your heading. That way there are no buttons to press, simply switch your focus between the upper and lower lines as you round the mark.

When you get your Sailteck out of its box, the compass is set to display compass, timer and time of day, which are allowed in virtually all classes. You can activate RaceLock to prevent changes to the page setup, see products tab or click here.

Q&A: 9x World champion Nick Craig

Absolutely! The Sailteck features a three button countdown system, ensuring quick and intuitive adjustments. The 30mm digits makes the compass easy to read from any angle, even when hiking or trapezing.

Sailteck has 30mm digits which makes it easy to read, even on the Finn with the compass being quite a long way away from the sailor.

"It's definitely a game changer", Nick Craig

Yes, it is designed for excellent visibility even when wearing polarised sunglasses. "That makes a big difference", Nick Craig

Yes, the Sailteck Race Compass comes with the cradle included.

Installing your Sailteck

The Sailteck race compass is designed with a universal mounting system that aligns with the standard hole pitch for existing compasses.

Sailteck is designed to be universally class legal and is approved for the ILCA, Finn, Lightning, 29er, 420, 470, all RS, Ovington classes and many others.

Sailteck offers a deck bracket available for purchase through our resellers.

Sailteck is also compatible with deck mounts from CarbonParts, Murphy and the RS Aero.

Murphy: MURPHY SAIL

Carbon parts:

The mast bracket can be attached using the slug, straps, or screws provided.  It offers a 45mm x 90mm pulley area, ensuring a wide range compatibility of mast sizes and shapes.  Mast bracket extender is available if you need more room (eg 29er).

Sailteck GPS Compass

The Sailteck GPS Compass provides essential performance data for high-performance sailing, including speed, heading, heel, trim, line distance, countdown timer, and time-of-day using GPS atomic time. The twin display with large digits ensures the data is easy to read even while hiking or trapezing.

Yes. The GPS Compass is an excellent training tool. By recording sailing tracks and allowing track comparison, sailors can analyse:

  • boat speed differences tactical
  • positioning manoeuvre efficiency
  • wind shift responses

This helps sailors improve performance between races and training sessions.

The Sailteck GPS Compass is supplied with two interchangeable keypads:

Red keypad – enables full GPS functionality including speed and line distance (for classes that allow GPS data during racing).

Grey keypad – limits the display to match the functionality of the class-legal Race Compass, while still allowing GPS track logging and committee race management.

Switching between keypads takes only seconds and does not affect waterproof integrity.

The Sailteck GPS Compass uses a high-sensitivity sky-facing patch antenna and connects to over 30 satellites across four global constellations. This design delivers extremely precise positioning and minimizes signal dropouts, providing reliable speed and positioning data on the water.

Yes. Sailteck continues to expand the GPS Compass capabilities through software updates, including SailteckLIVE ® and Bluetooth sensor integration for advanced performance data.

SailteckLIVE ®

When a new software upgrade becomes available, simply go to the WEB APP tab and click on Upgrade your software.

SailteckLIVE ® is a connected ecosystem designed to enhance racing precision and data analysis. It provides four core features:

  • Race Start: A professional, synchronized countdown for perfect timing.
  • Line Distance: Real-time, high-precision distance to the starting line.
  • Live Tracking: Instant position monitoring via long-range radio (no mobile network required).
  • Track Sharing: Automated data exchange between devices for instant race replay and fleet analysis.

Upcoming software upgrades will enable Bluetooth connectivity with external sensors, including wind speed sensors, through-water speed sensors, and Cyclops load sensors, allowing more advanced performance analysis.

Track Sharing is an upcoming software feature that allows sailors to log their sailing track and automatically share it with teammates on the water. Tracks can be replayed and compared to analyse performance and improve tactics — without needing to upload data to the cloud.

SailteckLIVE ® free software upgrade will be available for all Sailteck GPS Compass units starting in November 2026.
