Its large super-clear two-line display and intuitive interface. Sailteck is the best digital compass available.
The Sailteck race compass combines precision and ease of use in a lightweight, solar-powered design. The waterproof durable construction ensures optimum performance in all conditions.
Sailteck is the only manufacturer to claim and meet an accuracy specification which is 2°. While some other manufacturers refer to a repeatability of 1°, repeatability is the same as true accuracy. Our tests show that Sailteck is the only digital compass which delivers an accurate heading.
The race compass is available through specialist resellers. You can find your closest reseller at the resellers tab on our website or by clicking here.
If the battery is less than 50% charged, you will see a LOW BAT warning at power up and power down. To our knowledge, no one has ever seen this message since the integrated solar panel generates more power than the electronics need.
First sail on port tack and note the displayed wind direction. Now tack onto starboard and note the new wind direction, if the starboard wind direction is 10° less than the port wind direction then you need to add 10° to the TACK angle.
It’s down to how you sail. If you would never tack on a 1 or 2° wind shift but might tack on a 3 or 4° shift then the best STEP size for you is 2° since the numbers will benefit from the stability of the 2° STEP without affecting your tactics.
If you typically sail at 10° from the downwind direction and the wind is due north (000°) then you would expect to see the compass at 170° and 190° as you gybe your way downwind. If you are on starboard and see 180° then the wind has backed and is helping you to the downwind mark but if you see 160° then you might want to think about putting in a gybe.
Yes. Upwind use the Tactic display to indicate the wind direction and downwind use the Compass to keep an eye on your heading. That way there are no buttons to press, simply switch your focus between the upper and lower lines as you round the mark.
When you get your Sailteck out of its box, the compass is set to display compass, timer and time of day, which are allowed in virtually all classes. You can activate RaceLock to prevent changes to the page setup, see products tab or click here.
